April 2024 online-tales from the line

Overview

Players who buy Story Tickets will be buying a ticket for a single mod runner who has a single story to tell throughout the weekend. The group you play with will be the same throughout the whole thing and it’ll be one connected storyline spread out over multiple sessions. Think of it as paying for a professional GM to run your tabletop game for the weekend, allowing for a more personal and impactful experience.

Tickets

Our April event, “Tales From The Deadfall Line”, will have a limited number of mod tickets being sold; one for each slot a writer has for their mod series. These are our “Story Tickets” and include access to the mod series as well as full build. Each writer has a description of the plot they’re running, what online rules system is being used, and when they will be running sessions; so you can make the choice that suits you and your character best.

Story Tickets are first come, first serve.

We also will have Non-Attending Tickets available for local DRVA players, as well as Econ+Soft RP tickets. Non Attending tickets will work as normal and allow you the freedom of attending another game during the weekend, as well as the option of purchasing extra build.

Finally, there will be a Soft-RP space in the event Discord server,

Mods

Individual writers will have their own way of running their sessions which will be outlined in the mod previews. The system they use and schedule of the sessions will be made known before you buy your ticket so you can choose the writer that best fits your own schedule and preferences.

We do ask that players observe online etiquette when in voice channels on Discord: limit background noise or use push-to-talk, don’t talk over others if they are trying to speak (especially the mod runner), and give your fellow players and mod runner your full attention.

Read a little bit more about your storytellers for the weekend!

Phil (he/him)

has been storytelling since he was 10 years old in a variety of formats. Phil likes to run more narrative style games with the mechanics as its support system. His focus on “yes and” pushes players to explore their imaginations and solve problems creatively. Visceral combats that really make the people involved feel like they’ve earned their victory is one of Phil’s storytelling strengths, as well as nail-biting stealth missions and horror that evokes a physical reaction in the player experiencing it. But most of all, Phil loves to create scenes that allow the players to fill in the blanks of their shared narrative.

Story: The people of Jericho Junction are scattered to the wind after the revelation of the Rosenberg Alliance. The walls that kept them safe are now a prison and the surrounding areas have become a battleground. But the people of the Deadfall Line are resilient, and the civilized areas melt away to something else the further west you go. The Deeproot Kindred, a mysterious and secluded community of mountain families, are on the edge of declaring their support for the locals of Jericho but something is keeping their attention. A small group of survivors has found themselves in a small Kindred town near sundown when that something seems to have also found them.

Dex (He/Him)

is very much all about the experience of story, the rise and fall of emotions, and cinematic action. He uses mechanics as a foundation to tell stories and add the spice where needed, but very much likes to make use of the Rule Of Cool when mechanics often come into conflict in what would make a story great. He does his best to make sure everyone has their time to shine and come out at the end with a story that they are proud to share.

Story: A Fallow Hope contingent has recently received information that indicates there is a holy relic within a dense area of undead. The mission is simple: retrieve the relic and extract. However, the area itself is laden with undead and unstable terrain; it’s a near-impossible mission, but one you will see done. Intel doesn’t have anything on what the relic is or what it looks like, but there’s an approximate location in the heart of the red zone. Gear up and get ready to seek the Damned where they dwell.

Charles (he/they)

Hi! I enjoy running games with lots of politics and intrigue, and you can expect that for this event! I prefer running mechanics-light and a very narrative focused story, and use systems largely as a backdrop to solve challenges where they can’t be otherwise negotiated. You can look forward to a lot of moral choices and asking the question ‘How far am I willing to go?’ Outside of the game itself, all I ask is that everyone respects everyone’s time! This adventure will take a more serious tone, and while it’s ridiculous to ask that we not engage in levity and banter, please just be mindful that we’re all here to explore a shared story and to stay focused.

Story: M12 is investigating a cabal of Aberrants to see if it is going to be a long-term threat to the wastes. Players will explore the different subfactions of the cabal to observe and report their operations, or potentially eliminate problem players before they get too big. Aberrants will be directly infiltrating the cabal, while non-aberrants will be handling M-I approved aberrant operatives to influence the cabal.

Eric (he/him)

Eric (he/him) has been running TTRPGs and LARPs for over 30 years. For DRVA, he concentrates on themes of the Second Division, assorted military and radio themes, Natural Ones, Red Stars and the mysterious Road Witch. Eric views collaborative storytelling as a contract between ST and Player that elevates the narrative, possibly giving them both a conclusion that none could have predicted. He likes to follow the threads and make sure everyone has a place in that story. For DR writing specifically, he loves complicated choices and exploring different groups' perspectives on what is “right” in the world on the other side of the apocalypse.

Story Idea: Word from Chief Fuchs of the HOVLaneville Navy indicates they have spotted large shipments of supplies, weapons, and modified Raider Rides entering a Rosenberg controlled port. Accompany Chief Fuchs and a heavily armed boat on a dangerous raid on the Rosenberg depot using an unusual route. Bypass the blockade, deal with critters and strange things, take the boat through a twisted and haunted (?) path to finally bring the War to the Rosenbergs and maybe survive escaping?  Inspirations: Apocalypse Now, Lawrence of Arabia and the running plots and critters of Jericho Junction.
